About Us

The Aitkin-Itasca-Koochiching Community Health Board (A-I-K CHB) sets overall strategy and allocates resources for local public health in the Aitkin-Itasca-Koochiching Community Health Services area, consisting of Aitkin, Itasca, and Koochiching County Public Health Departments.

 

Our Mission

To lead efforts to prevent illness and injury, promote and protect the health of people and communities in the tri-county area.

 

our Role

The community health board is the legal governing authority for local public health in Minnesota, and community health boards work with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) to promote the public’s health.

Minnesota Statute 145A defines the responsibilities of the local Board of Health. Community Health Boards are mandated to:

  1. Assure an adequate public health infrastructure

  2. Promote healthy communities and healthy behavior

  3. Prevent the spread of infectious disease

  4. Protect against environmental health hazards

  5. Prepare for and respond to disasters, and assist communities in recovery

  6. Assure the quality and accessibility of health services
