Through the program, the county also conducted a Community Readiness Assessment in 2018 indicated Aitkin residents were in denial/resistance, and that at least some of the community members recognize that suicide is a concern, but there is limited recognition that it is occurring locally. After an awareness campaign over the last 4 years, Aitkin is preparing to complete a second assessment to see if the community has gained awareness.
